Medical Student Electives

Weill Cornell Department of Ophthalmology is proud to offer a comprehensive elective to the medical students of Weill Cornell Medical College as well as outside medical students. The elective is available all year in either 2 or 4 week increments. Third and fourth year students will be allowed to participate in the full range of activities within the Weill Cornell Medical Center's Department of Ophthalmology. This will include observation and/or participation in the comprehensive, cornea, retina and pediatric/ neuroophthalmology services, the main and minor operating suites, as well as clinical research projects. Emphasis will be placed on learning basic medical and clinical ophthalmology, slit lamp and indirect ophthalmoscopy exams and basic refraction. All rotating students will be expected to attend the weekly didactic conferences including grand rounds. Non-Cornell Visiting Students: You must apply for this rotation. Along with the Visiting Student application and supporting documents, please electronically submit your current CV, a one-paragraph explanation of why you want to pursue this rotation, and a current photograph of yourself. Please specify whether you want to do the 2 week or 4 week rotation and give three dates in order of preference.
